Swing And A Hit
I am pleased to announce that our hunt for plug-in, swing-arm lamps for the bedroom has come to an exciting conclusion. Ok, maybe “exciting” isn’t the right word, but I tend to get a little thrill when I can check any project off my list.
After striking out at several places including Lowe’s (no swing-arms), Restoration Hardware (everything’s hardwired) and even a couple specialty lighting stores (too pricey) we had just about given up on Richmond’s lighting stock. Luckily, we ended up visiting my parents in Northern Virginia this weekend and stumbled upon a Lamp Factory Outlet.
There, amongst endless rows of table lamps and chandeliers, we found the perfect option: two brushed nickel, plug-in, swing-arm lamps for only $40 a piece. About $200 dollars cheaper than most of the other options we saw. We snagged ‘em (the last two in stock!) and as of last night they’re officially swinging from our bedroom wall. We couldn’t be happier with the dramatic result:

The room definitely looks more finished and hotel-ish, so we can’t wait to curl up with a good book and order some room service. Ok, wishful thinking.
Here’s a close-up. You can see how we tucked the base behind the curtain and angled the lamp arm around the edge for a more polished look. We do have plans to find better lampshades since these (which came with the fixture) aren’t exactly our style. So on second thought, I guess I can’t completely celebrate this task’s conclusion.

ohhh! They look great! I even like the shades. :) I’m so glad that you were finally able to find some! It’s always hard when you know what you are looking for but you just can’t find it!
I’m curious as what kind of shades you are thinking of. :)
Thanks Aimee and Kelly! So glad you guys approve.
You can’t tell from the pics, but the shades are kind of sheer and have fibers running through them- giving them kind of a seaweed texture. I’m sure I’m not explaining it well, but our goal is just to switch them out for some matte white ones without the sheer stringy effect.
We’ll definitely post more pics if we ever find the perfect replacements. And if we don’t, it’s nice to know you guys like ‘em just the way they are. Not bad for $40 each. I can’t believe we almost paid four times that at some of the other places we looked. Whew

Sweet. Thanks Jennifer. We’re really excited about it.
And as an update to everyone inquiring about the lamp shade swap, we did our best to hunt down a more basic white version and had no luck so it seems as if we’ll stick with the ones pictured for the time being. The lamps definitely stepped everything up in our little bedroom nook, so it’s really no big deal if the shades have a little unexpected texture anyway.

Hey Kate,
Thanks for stopping in! Hopefully we’ll have more exciting transformation shots this coming week when our kitchen renovation is finally complete (probably around Wednesday). So glad you like what we’ve done with the bedroom- you’re really an inspiration!

That looks amazing! Seriously it looks like something you would see in a magazine, or, like you said, at a hotel. A very nice hotel too. :)
