We’ve virtually pillaged the world wide web to bring all of you clever people a fun- and hopefully inspiring- bevy of doable DIY ideas.

This first one totally makes my day. It’s actually a lamp offered up for 145 beans at Shades of Light, but I love the I-can-make-that feeling that it immediately sparked.

Why not buy a cheap lamp with a round or even a square base and glue some cork squares to it? I think it would look especially brilliant in a home office (or even in a bedroom with a love note and a picture pinned to it), and I’m sure you can pull it off for a lot less than $145.

This next project would gussy up any ho-hum bedroom in need of a little happy.

How cheerful and chic is that green painted bed? Especially paired with sophisticated brown and white. It’s like bright green ivy creeping up a trellis- so fresh! Note: I think the key to this whole look is that the walls are a neutral shade and the shot of color in the bed is the punchy little exclamation mark in the room (and not one of many colors fighting to compete in the space) so be sure your room is serene enough to tolerate this splash of somethin’ somethin’.

It’s also worth mentioning that I’m dyyyyying to paint one of our bookcases a dusty gray with just a hint of blue or even a very subtle grey-green. Although it wouldn’t pack the same punch as the kelly green bed, it would definitely add texture and interest on the cheap. Stay tuned to see if I actually get ‘er done.

Ok, so this next project is also bed related, but could be converted to suit any wall in need of a little personality.

Two old windows + fabric or wallpaper behind the glass (or in place of the glass) = awesome. We love how you can vary this look to tickle your fancy. The same piece of fabric or paper behind all four panes of both windows would yield something more organized and balanced, while a patchwork approach like the one above is a bit more beachy bohemian. Oh and if you’re looking for patterned paper that’s big enough for the job just pick up a few rolls of interesting wrapping paper and you’re in business.

The last idea is actually something we did in our den a few months ago.

Just adding a simple drum shade to a dated fan can take it from yawn to yes please.

I love, love, LOVE the idea with the window frames and fabric for a headboard. This helps me with my fabric addiction without having to sew a million coodinating throw pillows (which will just get dumped on the floor, anyway).

oooo, those are some great idea photos! i love them all, but the green bed is making me rethink painting my guest bed black.

I found a whole bunch of old windows at an antique store and considered purchasing them, but wasn’t really sure what to do with them … now I HAVE a fantastic idea! Love it!

I love that lamp, and yes, it totally could be a DIY project. The old windows are great too!

Thanks guys! Glad you likey. We have lots more DIY ideas so stay tuned…

Thanks for the fan & shade idea! We have a boring white fan in our sunroom. Now I need to find the right shade to spice it up!
