Fab Freebie: Furry First Aid

I bet it hasn’t taken long for you guys to figure out that we’re a tad infatuated with our dog, Hamburger.  Well, at least I know Danielle from FirstAidLive.com picked up on it.  She kindly sent us one of their Pet First Aid Kits, a tidy little bag with all the first aid goodies we might need if Burger ever gets cut, stung, or otherwise ends up in harm’s way.  Speaking of which, here he is risking a tongue-in-the-zipper injury.

And since we know we’re not the only ones playing protective parent to a furry family member, we asked Danielle to share the love. And we’re happy to announce that FirstAidLive.com has agreed to hook up one lucky reader with their very own Pet First Aid Kit. For your chance to win, just comment on this post with the name of your pet and, for fun, one of their weird habits.  For example:  “Hamburger: runs laps around our bed before bedtime.” Enter by Friday (11/21) at Midnight EST and we’ll choose one random winner to receive the kit by mail.  And sorry, but you’ve gotta live in the US for this one.

The kit nicely organizes 58 pieces into one convenient place (goodbye messy medicine cabinet) AND, better yet, can even stand in for a human first aid kit in a pinch.  That’s assuming Burger doesn’t mind sharing his gauze and antiseptic towlettes with his somewhat-accident-prone father (who, btw, nearly cracked his head open during our magazine shoot two weeks ago).

You can learn more about the Pet First Aid Kit and other First Aid supplies here.  And we can’t wait to hear about all of your wacky dogs and cats.

Hamburger is just the cutest name! We have a little Cooper, a CKC Spaniel. He is very much the lapdog and loves to lay on his back with his head on one of our pillows and sleep. My goodness, I never knew a 20lb dog could snore like a 500lb man!

We have a 5 year old cat named Murphy, that we adopted from the SPCA. His weird habit is to lick all the windows in our house.

What a great idea! We could definitely put a first aid kit to good use at our house since we have 4 rescue Golden Retrievers. Ruby, who is also my dog training demonstration dog, LOVES apples (or anything else that resembles a tennis ball). When she sees a ball or ball-like object, her lower jaw chatters! This looks especially funny b/c she has had her lower front teeth removed…

Bella is our spoiled Maltese. She will not allow DH and I to kiss without her jumping in to get some love too.

Piper, our 6 month old black lab, has multiple weird habits but the most annoying one is how we cannot stop her from eating the many acorns that fall in our back yard. I guess they taste good but she has had a couple of coughing fits that I know I can blame on those acorns!

Nella and Autumn, one year white fluffy cat and 3 month old vizsla dog respectively. Nella, the cat plays fetch with her favorite pink mouse, but no other toy and comes when you call her name! Autumn, the puppy has a foot fetish and even chews on your shoes when you are wearing them, walking by or just standing there. She also has to sit on your feet if your still! I just love them both!!!

I recently adopted “Kitty” from a friend. She’s all white with one blue eye and one gold - very glam and very cuddly! She’s still getting used to the house, and she often goes to look out on the back porch through my sliding glass door, where she inevitably catches a glimpse of herself. This almost always causes panic - I think she thinks she’s another cat - and at least five times a day, a flurry of fur and paws goes skidding across the kitchen floor to her safe place - the food dish. Hilarious!

Roxie is our 2 year old mutt. she has a blankie that she cannot live without. she takes it everywhere with her, and if we dont see it, we can ask her where it is, and she knows exactly where she left it last!

We have two- Lexi is pushing 11 years and will bark if you raise your voice too high (ie loud laughing)- she likes her peace and quiet!
I don’t even know where to begin with Gus- he’s the silliest dog I’ve ever known. Last night we put a sticky noodle on his nose and watched him dance around and do double axels b/c it wouldn’t fall off. he’s always making us laugh (but not too loud!)

p.s. gus is extremely accident prone, so the sooner we can win that kit the better! ;) hehe

My beagle/shepherd mix is named Sienna. Her weird habit is that she likes to lay at the top of the bed ON the pillows, but only if my fiance and I already have our heads on said pillows. She stretches across both of the pillows, completely sprawled out. Did I mention she is 65 lbs?

I have 4 furbabes, 2 crazy Lab boys, Drake & Tucker (they are bros) & 2 orange tabby cats, Daisy & Tootsie.

Tootsie acts like a dog more than a cat, she loves rough housing & she is named Tootsie b/c she has 7 toes on each front paw.
Daisy likes the outdoors & loves to taunt her doggie brothers by walking the fence & the roof, just out of reach.
Drake, Is my goofy dog, his tail wags a million times a minute & feels like a whip.
Tucker is my stubborn dog & will only do what he wants, when he wants. He will only fetch a red ball, no other & will only fetch a ball from the pool if his brother is going after it first! He is a lot like me. :)

We have two cats - Nemo and Roxy. They do a lot of hilarious things. The best is that they love sitting on window sills. Even if the blinds are down. They’ll both climb up on the sill and just push their way between the blinds and the window.

We totally understand the love-your-pet-like-a-child phenom! Our two-year-old hound/doberman/pointer/mutt Fin is a 60-lb cuddlebug. But with her long gangly legs, she’s quite clumsy and is always getting into trouble (the other day during a jaunt on the floor, her paw ended up stuck in a beltloop on a pair of jeans!)

She greets everyone at the door, wildly wagging her tail, and offers a shoe (any shoe) as a welcoming gift. Her weird habit doesn’t stop with shoes, though; she’s also infatuated with socks. She can produce a sock at any time, from anyone’s home. She doesn’t always tear them up, though; she shows them to us and seems to enjoy it when we ask, “Where on EARTH did you find another one!?”

I have 3 dogs - two sweet Golden Retrievers and 1 loveable Black Lab mix. Every morning while I am drying my hair they have Wrestlemania in the bedroom, and then when I am finished they line up to continue in the backyard. They’re a little nuts, but lots of fun!

Our dog, Zeus, frantically rolls around on the carpet after every bath. Our cat, Alton, absolutely cannot resist scratching his kitty condo if you start pretend scratching. He also got stung by something once when he was outside on his harness & leash (he’s an indoor kitty). His poor little paw about tripled in size!

We have one rescue pup named Toni - she is a beagle/min pin mix — its actually quite a cute mix. She is pretty funny and so full of love (may be having been in 4 homes before the age of 3) - her habits include: putting herself to bed underneath her blankets (and trying to burrow under ours) when we don’t go to bed early enough for her, thoroughly smelling people’s and dogs’ eyes, ears and noses, licking just about anything for no apparant reason, shaking like a leaf from pure excitement, and peeing when she meets someone new or if she is excited to see us after a long period away. Dogs are pretty amazing!

We have two mini rescued American Eskimos, Cooper & Riley. Ther eare so many funny things they do. When you tell Riley to give you a kiss, she licks your face. She also has a rope from the dollar store that we call her “wobbie” and if you ask her “where is your wobbie” she will cock her head at the question and then run, find the rope, and come back to show you. Cooper loves to burrow in the covers on our bed. He will burrow to the bottom of the bed and sleep there, totally covered. He also goes berserk when you ask him if he wants to go for a car ride, and will try to put the window down himself if you don’t crack it for him.

Our dog, Henry, is a mix of Miniature Schnauzer, Maltese and Lhasa Apso. He gets these crazy bursts of energy where he runs around our yard as if he’s stuck inside a pinball machine. We love it! :)

My dog Maddie is definitely considered the baby in my house. I get up and go to work before my husband, Kev, and as soon as I get out of bed, she comes out from under the covers and takes my pillow. I think she’s in love with Kev and likes to sleep next to his face when I’m gone! She also likes to lick him until she falls asleep. She is so weird and I love her. I could go on about her quirks for days.

I have a 1 year old 8 lb cockapoo named Strider. Strider has a mini tennis ball, perfect for his little mouth, that he LOVES to play fetch with. We can play for hours on end in our tiny apartment. Lately, when we aren’t giving him enough attention, he’s taken to pushing his little tennis ball under the stove or couch and then barking incessantly until one of us gets it out and throws it for him. We’ve watched him carry the ball into the kitchen, drop it on the floor, and then use his little nose to push it just out of his reach under the stove. It drives me nuts!! But his barking drives me even more crazy so I always end up getting the ball out and throwing it for him.

He has plenty of other odd habits, but this is his most recent!

P.S. Love your site!! This is my first comment, but I’ve throughly enjoyed reading all of your posts.

Charlotte: is so scheduled that at 9:15pm each night she sits by the door for the bedtime potty break.

Our dog Barley does wind sprints in the backyard and our cat Kozmo drools on us when he’s really happy. =)

Our dog, Eli, is a great dane/german shepherd mix. When he’s thirsty, he brings us his water bowl. Sometimes it’s not completely empty.

Our Westie, Ted, is pretty well trained (thank you, Cesar Millan), but his one weakness is the open dishwasher with dirty dishes inside. Must lick, must lick! Now, loading the dishwasher with him underfoot is like playing interference.

Our cat, Ziggy, has learned that when his mom and dad are both awake at the same time, it must be a weekend and that means he gets a wet food treat. I leave for work an hour before my husband, so on the rare mornings that “dad” gets up early to work out, Ziggy follows us both around, crying the whole time, until one of us gives in and treats him.

We have a 3-year old lab/border collie mix named Glacier. She looooooves her daddy almost more than anything in the world (balls come first, then dad). Whenever he leaves, she runs to our living room window, and stands with her front paws on the sill and watch him pull all the way out of the driveway and down the street. Then she runs to the front door where she stands and STARES DOWN the handle to wait for him. She’ll stay with her nose pressed against the door for about 20 min before she lay in front of the door and wait for him to return. Too cute!

We have a 3 year old ckcer spaniel named Cooper. He has lots of strange habits but there is one in particulair that blows my mind. He is sexist and I will tell you why I think so. Both my husband and I play fetch with him. But if we are bot in the room, no matter who throws the ball for him, he brings it back to my husband. And he greets my husband at the door with his ball in his mouth. But he does not do this for me.

I’ve got two dogs - a pomeranian named Chica and a mutt (we know he’s some minicher pinscher and at least 4 other breeds, we got him dna tested, did you even know you could do that? it was awesome) named Jack. We rescued both from the Humane Society, and I seem to have a nack for finding what I like to call “special” dogs - Chica has epilepsy, and Jack came with a pelvis that is fractured (permanently) in 3 places (the vet things he was hit by a car when he was a pup). So one weird thing is that they both take pills for their health issues.
You probably weren’t looking for such a sad and pathetic story, so how about something more fun on each of them.
We got Chica after we already had a cat at home, and she picked up a lot of traits from the cat, so at our last place, we had an endtable that was situated between the arm of the couch and a window. Chica learned to trot right off the end of the couch and onto the table were she would plop down and watch the world outside that window. Oh, and she likes to extend both her back legs out behind her when she lies down - looks like she went splat.
Jack - he is crazy (reminds me of the video you have a burger trying to get out of his halloween costume.) His funniest thing is probably, when we wants to come back in from the back yard, he’ll get so excited when you come to the glass door that he’ll hop on his paws, but his two front paws go up at the same time, so he looks like he’s bouncing. Its too cute.

Thanks for reading. I too am infatuated with my pups and love to share!

Kona, our lovely 3 y.o. Pom-mix, is a chunky 15 pounds, and will *only* play with dogs that are smaller than she is. And, plastic bottles are her enemy. :)

Abigail Birchwood Meadows, our Shiba Inu/Lab puppy. The strange thing about her is that she has no idea that she is a dog. You can walk into a room and she will just be sitting, as if she was a person, there on a chair (which she isn’t supposed to be on). She will give you a look like “Oh, how are you,” and then just get back to staring off into space.

Our black and white Basenji, Domino, closes his eyes and waits about 30 seconds before he eats or drinks water. The vet says he is trying to focus his elderly eyes (he’s 13+) but we joke that he is praying before partaking.

Our lily (beagle) loves to sleep with us, which is fine but she prefers to sleep UNDER the covers. Yep, so if in the middle of the night she gets uncomfortable, she spins around under the covers–usually ripping them off of me–until she finds her comfy spot. We just got a new pet–Piper (she’s our 3 month old kitten) who luckily doesn’t care to sleep under the covers like her sissy! :)

These responses are hilarious to read through. I have a female golden retriever, Maddie, who…I’ll keep this PG…likes to “get friendly” with her sister, Maisey, who my sister owns. I guess family ties in the dog world has a different meaning.

We have two dogs-a golden/chow mix named Eli, and a chow/sheltie mix named Sally. Eli loves to take rides in the car, and can even roll the window down on his own!

We have a 6.5lb Alaskan Klee Kai named Rory (AKKs look just like Huskys - but they’re small!) She has all sorts of quirks - most of which make her sound like a cat! She loves to curl up in the windowsills at the front of the house and stare out into the front yard. It wouldn’t be so bad - but the previous owners didn’t leave any paint and her little paws are beating up the sills! She also runs laps in the living room when we aren’t looking - she start on the loveseat (the only piece shes allowed on), jumps to the ottoman, makes a flying leap across the room to the chair, jumps to the sofa, and then back to the ottoman. This isn’t a small room and these pieces aren’t close - it is some might leaps for a tiny dog!

We have 2 dogs. Our first adopted is Skyler. He is a lab pit bull mix. He loves to put 2 tennis balls in his mouth and kick a third ball around like he is playing soccer. Our second dog is Dia. She is a full pit bull and about a year old. She is our crazy hyper dog. She loves to hop on the bed, thrust herself in circles and throw all of the pillows off. Then when she realizes your watching her she stops and gives you a look like, “What, I’m not doing anything!” It’s hilarious.

Our dog Reagan is a three year old yorkie. He used to sit by his food bowl, full of food, until we told him he could eat. Since we moved to our new house, he doesn’t sit by the bowl, but he will creep into the kitchen and get a piece of food and take it into the other room to eat it. Once he realizes we think it is ok he is eating, he returns to his food bowl to finish his meal. I think my husband gave him some weird complex… at least it’s easy to blame on him. :)

SHELBY is our 1 year old Papillon. Shelby must think her big butterfly ears (have you ever seen a papillon!?) can make her fly, because she loves to leap from high places and she kinda floats for a second before miraculously landing on all fours.

Winnie Woo my year-old Airedale Terrier willingly catches balls or stuffed toys mid-air, but attempt to throw a milk-bone or marshmallow at her and she does a duck-and-cover or simply lets it hit her before chowing down.

We have a nutso boston terrier named Lola. She has many weird habits, but her favorites are licking peoples toes and sucking on her toys. :)

I have a Weimaraner named Norman who loves to ride in the car so much that he gets in when I am unloading groceries, then refuses to get out. I have to coax him with treats, or just leave the door open until he gives up…

As of next week I will have Emmett, a two year old Chihuahua who thinks of himself as a parrot. If you sit on the couch he jumps up on the back and then sits on your shoulder - he also does figure eights around table legs when he’s excited.

cali is our 3.7 lb chihuahua and we just adopted a kitty that is 5 months old and 10lbs. they like to play fight. also cali paws at the cover to get underneath constantly.

First of all, your Burger is too cute! We have a shorkie (shi tsu - yorkie mix) named Rafael.. we call him Rafa. He has so many kwirks it is hard to think of the most fascinating one right off hand. He sorta has a little bit of cat tendencies in him… he’ll rub his body against your legs and turn around and do it again… like a cat. Weird! He also has a foot fetish. My grandmother said that… it sounded really weird coming from my grandmother. Haha! Great giveaway! Lord knows we need a little first aid help with our little devil - oops, I mean angel - around! ;)

We’ve got a dorgi (Dachshund-Corgi) named Toby. You’d never guess by looking at those little legs, but he’s got quite a jump. We used to baby-gate him in the kitchen whenever we left the house but he’d jump over it. Then we learned just how high our 4 legged friend could jump when we caught him jumping from the floor to the top of our pub style kitchen table - without jumping on the chair first! Geesh. Sometimes his ‘talent’ is annoying (table jumping), but other times its just plain adorable!

Our 8 year old cat, Howard, loves to plop right in the middle of the Sunday newspaper while we’re reading it and take a nap!

Roxy and Sandy are our golden retreivers. Roxy sprints 5 laps around the perimeter of our backyard every morning, and Sandy has the funniest excited bark/growl that sounds like she’s talking. We need the kit because they have the unfortunate habit of biting each other occasionally!

We just got a chocolate lab, Payton, who likes to run circles around his food bowl while he inhales his food.

Hello Young People:

Love little Burger…Lexi’s boyfriend. We are so proud of our beautiful boxer that we rescued in February. She is STILL a puppy. She is definately a girly dog. She loves jewelry, shoes, scarves…and she likes to chew up my bras. I HAD a nice black one from Intimacy here in Atlanta$$$$$… she chewed the underwire out of it in no time flat!
Best,
Judy Clark

Our Rottweiler’s name is Wally, and he likes to jump at and eat bugs bugs. During the summer he would run around the park at dusk, leaping and gulping down the little creatures. While most people see a rottweiler and are intimidated, we find him to be absolutely adorable.

My husband and I rescued our dog Newton from the SPCA last year and he has been such a joy! He has two, equally weird, habits. One is that he will steal your bananas, peel, and eat them. The other is that he licks anything and everything incessantly. He greets guests as the door by licking their knees and he can go from licking his paws to licking the couch up and down in the blink of an eye. He’s a special one alright and he would certainly appreciate a first aid kit.

Domino, my parson russell terrier, loves to sleep under the covers. She also attacks the tv when a dog or cat appears on the screen, jumps with her whole body so it looks like she’s levitating, and runs back and forth on the top of our couch. She’s a nut!

We have a very large French Mastiff puppy named Ruby (aka Miss Ruby Shoes). She has many strange habits, but my favorite is that she lays in bed like a person with her head on a pillow when given the chance.

We have a daschund, Cash, that will only play with the torn off part of a toy- for example, if we buy a new bunny, he will rip the ear off and only play with that! Our Chocolate Lab, Dakota, humps his bed when he gets excited- including when we have visitors. Sooooo embarressing!

Zeek (I was going for “Zeke” but the adoption folks misspelled it…oh well!) is my gray tabby cat. He is freaking obsessed with q-tips. EVEN THOUGH I quickly learned that they needed to be stored in a container and hidden, I still manage to find q-tips in every room of the house–he has even shoved them in the tiny space between floorboards before! He just loves pushing them around on the floor with his paw…weirdo! He also jumps on the bed at 10pm every night and meows until we get in with him, and every morning 5 minutes before the alarm goes off he attacks our faces with licks until the alarm goes off. Then he hops on the floor and meows until we get out of bed!

My puppy’s name is Ruby and my cat’s name is MooShoo. Ruby is very very hyper and MooShoo is laid back.

We’ve got a blonde, 75-lb., husky-shepherd mix named Harper who loves to have her fur vacuumed. She’s also kind enough to collect any stray coffee beans that miss the grinder in the morning—luckily they don’t make her too terribly hyper. :)

We think our cat Nero is actually a Bombay– a cross between a Burmese and a shorthair– even though the rescue group we got him from said he’s a Domestic Short hair. He’s all black, loves to “talk” (he even talks back when he’s scolded), and he plays fetch with a stuffed owl. He loves his owl. We bought a few additional ones once we realized how much he loves it. I used to keep them in my end table. He realized this, opened the end table, and took the extra owls out to play with. I moved them back to the end table, but he kept getting them. And he kept going into my end table even after we moved them to another location! What a smart cat!

The love of our lives is our feisty, nine year old boxer girl, Treasure, who will only drink water out of the bathtub faucet!

This is the second place I’ve seen mention of these kits this week!!

We have two cats, Greyson who only meows in exagerated, fully-open mouth, 30 second long meows that sound like he’s being tortured lol and does tricks, including, sit, stand tall, lay down, rollover, catch and fetch. As well, as Mischu who instead of meowing, makes a funny little sound that’s a combination between a purr and a bird chirp - if my bf leaves a top or jacket of any kind out anywhere in the house, he will bring it to his special spot, and wrap himself up in it, and sleep. Oh, and he respect my need for sleep and doesn’t run into our bedroom until he sees the light on.

We have a dog Lucy (who has many nicknames) and a cat Callie. Lucy loves to play with Callie, who pretends she doesn’t like it. Lucy loves popcorn whenever I am making in on the stove she stands right below me and then follows us to the sofa to beg.

We have two dogs, Abby and Bentley. Abby is the most perfect dog ever and doesn’t really have weird habits. Bentley…he’s a different story! He can not come inside with out having an acorn in his mouth. he loves to throw them around on our floors and chase them.

Our Shih tzu/Bichon, Quincy, will sneeze at me while I’m preparing food. It’s as if he’s trying to say, “um…excuse me, don’t you see me? I’m waiting very patiently for some food” And he won’t stop until I either give in or pick him up. Geesh what a princess!

Where to begin. We have two labs: a nearly-two yellow lab named Rosie Jane and a 5-month old black lab named Jackson.
- Both dogs frequently talk in their sleep. This involves all four paws twitching and little yelpy intermittent barks.
- Rosie slept belly up for the first 6 months of her life.
- Both dogs (when they were small enough to fit) would sleep with half their bodies underneath our sofa.
- Jackson’s favorite place (other than right under our feet) is the kitchen mat in front of the sink. It doesn’t matter if we’re trying to wash dishes or use the sink in any way. The mental picture here is a dog curled up on the rug with either my husband or i straddle-legged overtop him.
- Rosie has started this happen of “zoning out” - we’ll be in the kitchen cooking dinner and she’ll stand up and just stare at something without moving for minutes on end. very bizarre.
- And finally, Rosie “passes gas” louder than any dog I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m glad she can’t read, or she’d be terribly embarrassed right now.

Emma is our little Pomeranian/Yorkie who’s got lots of energy!! She also loves people and attention more than any dog I know. When anyone comes over, she gets so excited that she starts to hyperventilate and we have to rub her back to get her to stop choking and calm down.

We have Cole and Avery (both black labs) to keep us entertained. While Cole prefers everything on the right side (from his food bowl, to his dog bed, to his kennel), Avery enjoys digging holes in the shape of squares. Their quirks make us laugh!

I have a 1 year old boxer mix named Moose (seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eccabay/2845204945/). He has dozens of weird habits, but you only asked for one so……you get two.

He will harrass my tiny 3-legged cat every night until she bathes his face for him. It seems that he can’t sleep unless he gets his bath, just like my human kids.

His second funniest habit is covering up his food bowl if he didn’t finish what was in it. Because there is nothing to “bury” it with on the kitchen floor, he will nose the air and push it around until I finally take pity on him and cover the bowl up with a napkin. That seems to make him happy.

My scottie dog, Piper, likes to keep herself occupied while I’m at work. I have stairs you can see when you enter the house and she puts a toy on each step…and she sits on the first step wagging her tail when I get home. She also takes the cushions off the couch and makes a little obstacle course for herself. =)

Cody was supposed to be a beagle (from a beagle rescue) and grew into more of a German shepherd than anything. Although he weighs 65 pounds, whenever he’s feeling fragile (he sometimes gets tendinitis), he does things like wedge himself into places far too small for him, or walks across the back of the couch like a cat, just to show that he’s soldiering on, even though he’s in pain.

We have three dogs - Sobe, Chloe and our recent addition, Moe. They have all taken to stealing our shoes when we are not home and hoarding them in their beds. They don’t chew them so it is actually cute that they want to sleep with our shoes!

Rocky MUST walk to the mailbox before “taking care of business” in the evening. I’m sure our neighbors wonder why we visit the mailbox on Sundays!

I have three black labs:

Daisy - who insists on mooing when she is hungry.

Dora - who can obediently kiss anything you command her to

Duchess - still a puppy at heart who will rifle through a laundry hamper to bring you something that she wants to wear.

We have three, a big lab/shepherd mix and two small mini-aussie mixes. Juniper Fitzsimmons Fluffypants (one of the mini-aussies, Juniper for short) loves to jump as high as she can (and that’s HIGH) but she usually ends up coming down on one of the other dogs, so a first-aid kit would probably come in handy :P

My husband and I have a 1 year old American Mastiff named Scarlet. Two of Scarlet’s many quirks include giving herself her own ‘professional’ mani/pedis and she also insists on sleeping between my husband and I (with her head on the pillow, mind you) at night…this wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t 150 lbs.! She thinks she is a big baby though, so she gets along splendidly with my parents’ two chihuahuas!

Our two French Bulldogs, Louis and Norman, play a seemingly neverending game of musical dog beds every evening. They always want the bed that the other dog is in, and it has sort of a Goldilocks and the three bears feel to it, too: this bed is too big, this bed is too small, this bed is just right. Except the “just right” bed is never the same bed for each of them. Then what happens when the beds get moved around, to different parts of the bedroom?! Bedtime with our two furry boys can often be a little chaotic ;o) But they are a constant source of amusement!

I have a new puppy. She’s just 8 weeks old and I just got her. Her name is Bindi and is a Goldendoodle/Brittany mix. The only weird habit I’ve noticed so far is that she like to climb up on my shoulder and just sit there. Not really for sure why she likes it up there, but I expect that’ll change when she gets a little older. Actually, it’ll have to as I can’t have a 50lb dog sitting on my shoulder! haha!

Our sweet hound dog Cecil, likes to dig a hole in the back yard, pee into it and then stick her face in it. We are trying to break her of the habit, but it’s also totally adorable.

Hamburger is an awesome name! haha

Well my Shih Tzu Bandit likes to dig on hard surfaces. We have linoleum in our kitchen and bathroom. At random times, we will start digging viciously at the linoleum and make the rugs on these surfaces fly. I should really catch him in the act and post it on You Tube. :D He even does it in the backyard on the concrete around my parents’ pool. But, ironically, he doesn’t “dig”. He’s never attacked the lawn or a flower bed. hehe

We have two rescue kitties, Fletch and Phil. Fletch has several quirks, but the strangest is his obsession with a toy squirrel I got him. He always leaves it in his food dish! Even if DH or I hide the squirrel or put it in his toy basket, he digs it out and puts it right into his food dish (weird) and once into his water dish (yuck). Phil is still in the kitten phase, so he is full of amusing antics. He loves attention…if he can get to your hand he will rub his face on it until you pet him.

Every morning, Mo has to go outside to check to see if there are bunnies before she will eat her breakfast. She runs out, checks the bunny status, then runs back in for breakfast. She will not eat until she does this.

Our 2 year old brindle boxer Riley has a weird drinking habit. (haha)

He likes his water to move… fill a big bowl with water, nope, doesnt want it. But pour it from a glass, from a hose, even swirl the water in the bowl and he will lap it right up!

Xochitl is our 8 yr. old Cocker Spaniel who lays on her stomach and stretches her hind likes like a lizard and drags herself over to us everytime we arrive home. She’s crazy I tell you! But we love her soo much. We equally lover our Lindis who is our 12 yr. old Chow/Labrador Mix who only barks at people when we’re outside in the yard with her!

Chandler, our Collie/Lab/G.Retriever mix, loves to howl ever-so-sweetly when our house phone rings and when the call goes into voicemail mode. We don’t use our house phone for anything important so it’s rare for someone to actually answer it, and he gets to sing.

Our red-nosed pitbull, Joey, loves growl-bark when he’s excited and dance, which is basically the only time he ever speaks and he loves being tucked into his dog bed being surrounded by a blanket.

My black cat, Maverick, loves to smell anything I’m eating or drinking out of curiosity and was literally born on my bed a bit over 10 years ago.

My calico kitty, Luna, is obsessed with trying to get into our attic. The only way up is when we pull down the stairs from the ceiling. I’ve heard her meowing at me THROUGH THE ROOF when I was in the attic because she wanted in and I closed doors to prevent it.

(Lurker here!)…
My 9 month old puppy-Callie…oh, where do we start… We call her Callie Indiana, as in Indiana Jones because she’s always on a dangermous mission in hte backyard. She LOVES her some squeaky toys, and will find one (from her wicker toy basket-functional yet stylish!) and literally jam.it.into.your.legs until you grab it from her mouth and throw it farrrrr. Catch.Repeat. She also likes to run laps around our oddly shaped living room. Any time she sees a water bowl (like a typical dog has), she finds the need to “dive” in and “swim” like she’s straight up Michael Phelps. It’s rather embarassing at the dog park, but that’s just Callie Indiana!
Many pics of her up on my blog-she’s a cutie!

Cooper, our 8-year-old Basset Hound, “asks” permission to get on our bed by putting his paws up on the bed rails and popping his head up. However, instead of jumping up when we say yes, he will run to the other side of the bed and do the same thing. Over.And.Over.And.Over. until either my husband or I gets so annoyed we get up and put him in the bed. Keep in mind that he is perfectly able to jump up there himself. It’s a good thing he is so cute!!!

Our Jake Dog- an adorable mutt who is some mixture of beagle, boxer and lab - has many crazy, yet charming habits! Our favorite is that he loves to give hugs - whenever we get home he jumps up and puts his paws on our waist and snuggles his face up to us. He does this any chance he gets - when we are sitting, working on the computer, reading or watching tv - any time he sees just a glimmer of an opportunity - he takes it. And although its weird and oddly human-like - we don’t mind at all!

Our dog Riley, a sweet German-shepard mix we rescued 2 1/2 years ago at the age of seven. She loves hooves, thats the only thing she will play with. She chews them to the point her gums bleed and there is blood on the carpet (oh so fun to clean!) all the while wagging her tail likes it the best thing in the world. She can’t have just one, they are all over the house, I made the mistake of putting them in her toy basket and everytime I put them away, she is right behind me pulling them all out. Too cute!

I rescued 2 little abandoned kittens (about 2 weeks old)at the end of October. They are my first ever pets. Hobbit and Mucchi had to be bottle fed for awhile before their teeth were big enough for canned food, and will be switched to kibble soonish. After each meal, Mucchi likes to climb up on me and give me a kiss on the lips before going off to play with her brother. Hobbit will climb up on my shoulder and try to eat my hair. They’re both so adorable, I couldn’t even think about taking them to a shelter after rescuing them!

Our border collie mix, Rigby (named after the Beatles song) loves to play/fight with us. But every single time we play, her signature move has to make an appearance. We call it “Whip Tail,” and it looks just like it sounds. She spins around and tries to slap you in the face with her tail. Luckily, she has one of those soft, furry tails and not a hard one like a Lab! It just cracks us up, because she’ll do it over and over like she thinks she’s going to finish you off with it. Silly girl!

Our dog Yeager is a loving Weimeraner 9 month old puppy! When I’m fixing our dinner and he’s ready for his, he starts licking his empty food bowl and looking up with sad puppy eyes and then he starts to lick the wall above the food dish, as if he’s THAT hungry. He also will not eat his food unless someone is in the room with him. A social eater, if you will. When we leave the house and we leave his full food bowl in his crate with him, he won’t touch it!

Leila, our 8 month old golden retriever, is a perfect fit for our life style. We spent literally years researching and finding a breeder before we brought her home. We own kayaks and enjoy quiet water kayaking, so one of our first purchases was a doggy pfd… bright pink so she’s highly visible out on the lake. We waited till she was 6 months old for her first kayaking adventure, to be sure she knew and could hold a sit stay even if a duck flew by. The big day arrives and, guess what! The boat terrifies her! She shook like a leaf the whole time she was in it! We hopped out on an island for a quick hike, which she loved, hoping to calm her, but when it came time to get back in the boats she out right refused!

So, we’re making the best of the situation and doing a lot more hiking. That kit looks like a great size for her to carry in her “back pack.”

Rosie, our 14 year old Golden Retriever does her “Jane Fonda” every morning after breakfast. Meaning she lays on her back and wiggles her little legs in the air for 15 minutes.

Our boys, Bones and Rusty would get entirely too much use out of that kit! Bones (a pit bull mix) has such thin skin I swear he bleeds every time he leaves the house! I don’t know how he does it.
Rusty’s funny quirk is that if you have a treat he’ll run through all of the tricks/commands he knows hoping he’ll stumble across the one you’re about to say. You can totally see him thinking, “Wave? No? How about Play dead? Shake? Roll over? Geez! What do you want from me?!” It’s hilarious. He also asks permission to get on the couch (he has very expressive eyebrows) but if he thinks he can get away with it he’ll try and sneak past you.
And then there’s the opening the fridge and stashing the wrappers so you’d never know except that the sliced turkey/butter/cheese is gone…
*sigh* Things are never dull at our house!

Cooper is our Boston Terrier. He loves to watch TV and barks at any and every animal that comes on (even cartoons)!

We have a 3 year cat named Mona. She may be a cat but she can play fetch better than any dog I’ve ever seen.

We have two adorable little kitties, Sniffles and Ollie. Sniffles has a habit of squeaking like a rubber ducky when you pick her up, while Ollie tends to cackle like a dolphin when I sneeze. He doesn’t do that when my boyfriend sneezes…just me. Weird.

Also, after re-reading that, I think our cats have identity issues. A duck and a dolphin? Hmm…better get ‘em to therapy! :o)

Our main man is our kitty Woody, so named by my then-college-boy husband, so he could ask all the girls if they wanted to come over and pet his Woody. Oh yes, he did. Hands off, ladies, he’s mine.

Woody is 11 and showing no signs of slowing down. His weirdest thing (because there are so many weird things he does!) is at night while we sleep (after he does his Kitty Olympics up and down the stairs) is to claw up the rolls of toilet paper in the bathrooms. I wake up in the morning and find little tp snowflakes all over the floor and holes in the roll. We have to keep the doors shut at night so he doesn’t ruin the toilet paper and make a mess, but he sometimes still meows at the door and paws at the floor outside.

Mine would be Chewbacca - the collie that limps (poor arthritic dog) and Epiphany - collie/golden retriever mix that is too big to hide under the bed when it thunders, but manages to get at least halfway under and gets stuck. every. single. time. (you would think she would’ve learned by now she’s not puppy-sized anymore.)

Our dog Koda is a 3yr old Shiba Inu who loves to hunt bugs. He will dig them up in the ground, jump in the air to catch flies, and sniff through every corner of the house looking for any creepy-crawlies that might be lurking there. Pretty gross but saves us some cleaning!

We could definitely use this. Tally is so accident prone. Her weird habit is that she licks everything, whether it be the floor, pillow, comforter, etc. It’s extremely weird.

Sarge: a big, dopey rottweiler who scratches his bed and turns circles before laying down…..like a cat!

Sage, our blonde lab rescue, likes to greet everyone who comes to our door by putting their arm in her mouth.

Since she can’t shake your hand until you ask her to (and then she’ll offer her paw) she’ll gladly grab your arm in her mouth (lightly) and give her hello.

P.S. When you ask for people to talk about their animals, it’s a sure bet you’ll get lots of responses!

We have a pug named Ralph, who loves to grab my pant leg and play tug of war….while I am wearing the pants.

One of my dogs(have 7) Scarlet has an uncanny time running into walls, she looks one way and walks another lol

Our dog, Barley, actually chases his tail. A lot.

He’ll also sit on your lap anytime you sit down on the floor. Which is super-uncomfortable since he’s a 75-lb mastiff/bully mix. I suspect he thinks he’s Burger’s size.

Frankie-Chihuahua/Pug
sits on her hind legs with her front paws in the air when she wants something, kind of like a squirrel with a nut in it’s hands…so cute!

Jovi-English Springer Spaniel/Mutt
likes to lay down spread out on his belly with his hind legs frog style, also quite adorable!

Dakota - she loves ducks, and can even tell the difference between a goose and a duck (perhaps normal for a trained hunting dog, but that would not be this dog)

Sadie & Gunnar, our 2 Italian Greyhounds (and friends of Sarge the Rottie, about 7 posts up!) - Sadie tries to walk on her 2 front legs if we put clothes on her. I think she thinks the clothes will fall off of her if she does that. It’s quite comical. Gunnar is my shadow and must be where I am constantly. He’ll even take a bite of his food and carry it to the room I’m in to chew.

When my whippet mix, Abby, needs something (a treat, to be let outside, a good belly rub), she’ll sit by me, stare intently at me, and snort LOUDLY to get my attention. If I’m deeply involved with an activity and don’t notice right away, she will continue to snort until I turn my attention to her and determine what she’s ‘asking’ for!

I have a pug named Roscoe who spins in furious, tight circles whenever he’s excited! Usually when visitors come over and when he knows it’s time to eat.

Yay, this would be so perfect! Zoe, our rescue mutt, keeps getting small injuries at the dog park. We also have two rescue cats and now that it’s getting colder, one of them, our black cat, Escher, has taken to staying warm by snuggling around the top of my husband’s head. Now every morning I get to wake up and see an Escher hat around my husbands head!!

I have 2 wonderful black labs. Sox is 6 years old, and Buddy just turned one last Saturday.

Sox is a cuddler, he thinks he’s a person and will sit on the couch next to you like one. He loves watching TV and will sit at the table with us if we let him (we don’t)

Buddy is rambuctious to say the least. He is a kisser who can extend his neck an additional 6 inches just to make sure he can kiss you while you’re trying to hold him at bay.

My cat Lily, loves to chase the newspaper each morning when we toss it in the house from the front porch. :)

How fun! One of my cats, Vinnie (2yrs), only has one eye and her other eye only has 10% vision. Her favorite game? A mean game of fetch. That’s right, if you throw a toy mouse across the room Vinnie will run and grab it and return it gently at your feet - over and over again. I’ve never met such a hilariously happy cat! Her blindness means nothing to her! :)

We have Oscar (6 yrs, dachshund), Marley (3 yrs old, great pyrenees), and Smokey (foster-1 yr, lab mix). Oscar loves to lounge in a donut shape, and when he’s really settled in he doesn’t move. So if we move around, there’s this little circle of hair that doesn’t move anything but its eyes. Marley patrols the yard and has run 2 paths through the back lawn. Smokey still has those cute, clumsy puppy movements. He will also curl up in a donut in the back yard, but with his head up so he can keep an eye on things, and he looks just like he’s sitting on a nest. Love my fur babies!

Thanks for this chance to win the puppy first aid kit!

We have the always amusing HuskyMutt Sadie. We adopted her from a friend of ours who rescued her from an unloving home and she’s about a year and half old. We live in an apartment building with thin walls and our neighbors have a little pit bull puppy that likes to run up and down the hallway in their apartment. Since our halls share a common wall, Sadie the HuskyMutt likes to CHASE our neighbor’s dog down the hallway through the wall. BUT, she doesn’t just run down the hall - she runs and the LEAPS down the hallway. It’s hilarious.

Your dog is such a cutie. One thing about my dog Oscar(min pin) is the fact that he LOVES to cuddle up in my clothing. If I dare leave any article of clothing within his reach, he finds a way to drag it to his bed and cuddle his face in it..this includes socks and hair accesories!

Our dog Charlie loves to sleep UPSIDE DOWN. It’s a trip. He lies on his back, legs flailing, with his little head smushed into the carpet. Silly dog.

I have two little cuties - Shula the Westie and Stella the Yorkie/Dachshund mix. They have more quirky habits than I could list, but here are two special ones: Shula loves to climb into refrigerators whenever she has the chance (http://tinyurl.com/6z2ape) and Stella has a mean habit of chasing her own tail!

My family just got a 2 year old black lab mix named Lucas from the SPCA! He moves furniture around for us! Seriously, instead of using his paw to scratch he runs laps around the arm chair in the living room pushing it around while he tries to cure the itchy blues! We love him already!

Kelly

Marley, our dog, loves to move things from the kitchen. he delicately lifts bags of bread, cookies, chips, whatever, from the counter and places them around the house. He never eats the food, just moves it. As if he’s concerned that we’ll crave a midnight snack so he left a bag of cereal in our bed.

My 8 month old rescue dog, Juno, loves to lick the water out of the little space between the shower door and the tub. Then when you get out of the shower, she wants to lick you dry, too! Needless to say, she’s a true water dog.

Jake is our two-year old lab mix (terrier? pit bull? boxer?) and he’s quite the social little guy. Loves guests, kids, old folks, you name it. His weirdest habit is that he’ll lay down and just lick the bejeesus out of our oriental rug in the living room (maybe b/c it’s made from animal hair? Tastes yummy?). I mean, this guy GOES TO TOWN and it’ll just be on one spot at a time.

His most endearing habit is when we get out his leash for a walk and ask “Whose leash is this?” he moans intermittently until we get outside. It’s as though he loves walks so much he’s consumed by the idea of actually going outside.

Our cat, Oliver, loves to sit on the edge of the tub while we shower and then get in after you turn the water off to slip-n-slide around. He’s nuts. He also loves to play chase w/ me (like a dog), it’s more like a combination of hide and seek and chase, so funny!

My two dogs, Jazz and Disco would be much safer in our house with one of these around!

A weird habit: Jazz MUST sleep under the covers of my bed at night. He will not go to sleep unless I lift the covers for him to get in and snuggle. He will pace all night long on my head until I do. Ask me how I know this…

I have two Boston Terriers: Jax and Jewels. Jax is obsessed with tennis balls. He pick one out each day and go nuts only playing with that particular ball. He’s crazy. Jewels has a serious nesting issue and she’ll fluff blankets for 10-15 minutes before she even lays down.

We have two cats: Simon, an orange tabby, and Riley, a Siamese mix. Simon loves to sleep on my head at night, and Riley must sleep on my husband’s legs. Simon loves to get in the shower after us, and lay on the wet floor, and if Riley is sitting somewhere Simon wants to be, he just sits on top of him. They are hilarious :)

My cat Jaq has recently discovered paper towels and toilet paper. The last 3 days, I have come home from work to find one of the above scattered ALL over my apartment. After two days and a vacuum barricade, I locked up the paper towels, only to come home today to TOILET paper! I don’t know what I’m going to do with him.

We have 3 animals (1 mutt doggie from SPCA, 1 older kittie from local cat rescue group, and 1 youngish Maine Coon). We can’t leave a drink with a straw around unattended because Delaney, the Maine Coon, will pull the straw out of the drink and carry it around. She will even play fetch with a straw if you throw one for her. Bridget, our other cat, is obssessed with water that comes from the refrigator; we think it is because that water is filtered. If she finds a glass of water unattended, she will knock the glass over so she can get to the liquid. Luckily, Maddie, the dog, doesn’t really care about our beverages.

Our dog Molly has the same ears as Burger!

Molly will be 9 this year and due to her, ahem, adventurous spirit we have had a lot of stories to tell over the years. The wildest thing she has done started this summer. When we’re not at home she stays with my parents. Apparently she was bored at their place so she decided to let herself out and go for a walk. She opened their sliding door and walked 2 miles to our place. Once there she pranced around at the back door waiting for us to let her in, like “Hello, just thought I’d drop by.” Fortunately she was okay, but from now on we are keeping maps out of her sight!

Cali is my 4 year old yorkie-bichon mix. She loves chasing her tail so much that often she forgets where she is in the house, turns around to quickly and hits her head on walls and furniture in an attempt to run around too quickly.. see, she needs some first aid! :)

Jack is our handsome yellow lab just over one year old. He will drag the boys’ bikes all over the yard. He even climbs the wooden ladder to the top of the treehouse to get a nice view of the surrounding yards. This is a great question to ask your readers………..
you’ve had a HUGE response! Good job -

Amen, Alicia! We’ve been entertained for days reading all of these answers…all 132 of them, in fact. But now it’s after midnight on Friday, so entry is officially closed. Thanks to everyone for the hilarious stories (and great pet names, too). We’ll be announcing the winner on Monday so keep your fingers crossed until then!

-John
