Nothing Beats A Glossy Magazine

Apparently even if you’re a dog. I was propped up in bed early this morning with one of my favorite mags when the phone rang and I sprang up to grab it. I returned to the bedroom to see this:

Apparently dogs can appreciate a good read. And speaking of a good read have you guys been loving Cottage Living as much as we have lately?

Very cute image. If it were my dogs I would return to a half eaten magazine!

Oh how I wish I was still at home in bed with a stack of design/decorating magazines.

Boo the weather here! It’s so gloomy out.

I could live life with only Cottage Living and Real Simple. Of course, I don’t have to do them. But, the rooms in Cottage Living are def. my favorites.

I love this photo of Burger! Our dogs wouldn’t have been nearly as adorable - they certainly would have ripped it to shreds.

Cute! Yup, I’m a subscriber! I’m a huge fan of living large in smaller spaces.

Ok…I have a crazy question now. Where did you get your wall light in this photo? I am desparately seeking two reading lights that are sconce type but have the cord so I can plug them in behind the bed. My walls are not hard wired for wall scounces. I find lovely one’s that I love but my wallet weeps and I can’t afford them. I want something simple…plain..affordable and with a cord. The cord will be hidden. Now mind you since your “possibly there is a cord” is hidden perhaps you can help?

Burger: “Do ya mind Sherry? I like to get my read on too. Thanks for warming up the spot for me. Now, go swankify something while I get comfy!”

How cute! I knew Burger had excellent taste, just like his parents!

CL is one of our favorites, and this month’s issue is the best. My favorite was the kitchen rescue…We have those same ugly stock cabinets and are planning a similar project. We will be sure to send in photos when we are done!

How cute! You should send that photo into Cottage Living!

Tee hee. So glad you guys are all getting a kick out of Burger’s reading pose.

Kristy, we picked up the swing arm lamps (which are actually plug-in wall sconces) for $40 a pop at a discount lighting store near DC (the best deal we could find, and we looked everywhere!). It was called Lamp Factory Outlet and I totally recommend checking it out if you’re nearby (or looking for another discount lamp outlet with tons of options for you to choose from). Happy hunting!

xo,
Sherry

Cute! Like a couple others my boys would have shredded that mag!

PS. My little one (human. not dog) thinks Burger is so cool! He loves the name Burger, always make him laugh when we read the blog & he loves chihuahuas, his auntie has one. We have Labs who think they are lap dogs. :)

I love CL and I’ve been a subscriber since the magazine launched, but I have to say I’ve been disappointed in the lack of true ‘cottages’ lately. It seems that many of the houses featured have all been huge, brand new McMansions decorated by professionals with gardens designed and kept up by professionals, and what I truly want to see are the older, smaller cottages decorated by the owner, like you guys and your house. There, that’s my rant.

That said, I also loved the kitchen reno and that fabulous 300-year old house with that giant wall-sized, walk-in fireplace in the kitchen. I was soooo jealous!

Kristy, I just ordered similar swing-arm lamps, from Overstock.com last week and I got them for $30 a piece! I was about to order them for $40 through Home Depot and lucked out when I came across them.

Thank you Melissa!!! And thank you Sherry…it helps to know the proper verbage for what one is searching for. “Wall light” just doesn’t get you what you want.

Love, love CL!! And I was so excited to learn that a special edition Christmas/holiday issue would come out in October…bought it as soon as it came out…sooo disappointed in it. But, I still love the magazine. Wish Henrico County would carry it in the library!
