Sure Our House Always Looks Clean…
… but sometimes my desk gets insane. As witnessed by this pic I snapped in the middle of a color consult last week:
Thankfully one of the leather ottomans in the den is the designated “paint chip storage spot” for all of our swatches and decks. So once I find the perfect hues I can just stash all my color consult stuff in there and again restore order before John comes home from work and wonders if a paint store exploded on my desk.

Whew! Glad I don’t have a webcam. I don’t want you to see my desk. Couldn’t live w/ out my Benjamin Moore color wheel though.
maybe you can get white shelves right above your desk and stash all of your paint swatches there (in cute matching storage/picture boxes, like white ones you have on your desk)… hmmm??? :o)
This is messy!?! Wow, this is nothing compared to the black hole of a closet I have in my office. Well, mine is hiding behind a curtain though! Shh, don’t tell!
if you substitute pantone color swatches for your paint swatches, your desk looks remarkably similar to my desk at work.
(and fwiw, *i* think your desk counts as messy. but hey, i’m a neat-freak, too :-))
Even when messy, this space looks chic =) I’m a bit OCD so I know the feeling when there’s any bit of clutter anywhere–UGH!
I’m fairly certain that I have that exact same greens paint chip in my desk. Never actually used it, I just have and issue with paint chips. I leave stores with handfuls of the ones that make me happy. My Paint Chip Illness became more obvious to me when I packed an envelope of my favorites when we moved to Spain for two years. House paint is weird here and ridiculously expensive. I pull out my envelope of chips every once in a while for some secret looking. I think my friends would think I was strange.
It’s a beautiful mess, my friend.
When it’s time to toss those paint swatches, they make great gift tags. (You can always find one to match.) ;)
hey…wait a minute… isn’t that the plant who’s “permanent home” is on your windowsill in the kitchen? are we using the same prop in multiple rooms again? i’m on to you. :)P
You’re very observant Pamela, but we actually have five burro tails throughout our house! They’re the best succulents (you really can’t kill ‘em, trust me- and they look pretty cute all drippy and moody in a white pot). We keep all five of ours in similar white Ikea pots (although some have horizontal lines, some have vertical ones, and some have a subtle leaf pattern) so we definitely understand the confusion. One lives on my desk, one on the kitchen windowsill, one in the guest bedroom, one on the tv table also in the den, and one on the console table in the living room. Trust me, if I were propping that desk it wouldn’t have looked like a crazy paint chip explosion. Good memory about our other burro tail in the kitchen though. Quite impressive actually.
And as for everyone who mentioned that my desk doesn’t seem all that messy, thanks. I’m a bit batty about clutter so when I’m sitting there in a sea of paint chips it tends to feel like I’m drowning but I’m glad to hear it’s probably not as bad as it seems. And KK- great gift tag idea! What a fantastic (and free) holiday idea…
xo,
Sherry
On a relatively similiar note, where do you find pantone paint color swatches, chips, and wheels… Print or paint shops? It would be helpful for a project that I’m planning.
Your desk looks “busy” but not a mess! I wish I could invite you to my kindergarten room to take a look at my desk! Oh my…

You call that a mess?!? You are very funny.
